8 Mistakes to Avoid on Black Friday

November 23, 2016 Posted by kingcade

Millions of Americans wait all year for Black Friday to come around. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, seven out of ten people stock up on holiday gifts during Thanksgiving weekend. With the right planning and research, you can save a ton of money this holiday season.

Here are some mistakes to avoid during the busiest shopping day of the year.

  1. Failing to make a list. Start by making a list of the items you wish to buy. Then research the places with the best prices for these items. If you are unsure of the items you need, determine who you are shopping for and then do some research online.
  2. Paying full price for add-ons. One of the most common mistakes Black Friday shoppers make is paying full price for add-ons when shopping for electronics. These include batteries, cables and chargers. It is important to keep in mind that you do not need to get add-ons the same day or at the same place. Strategize where you can buy each commodity for electronics at the best price. Saving these items for Cyber Monday is a good choice!
  3. Buying toys. The sales on toys typically extend into the first two weeks of December. According to DealNews.com toys are generally cheaper in the first two weeks of December.
  4. Choosing the wrong time to go. Many of the stores who participate in Black Friday deals have started their sales on Thanksgiving in recent years. According to retale.com, 54 percent of shoppers said they would prefer to stay home on Thanksgiving. This gives shoppers a chance to beat the Black Friday crowds.
  5. Opening store credit cards. It is tempting to open a store credit card to save an additional 10 to 15 percent off your purchase. However, going into debt over the holidays is not worth the savings.
  6. Not using a price-comparison app. If you are planning on shopping on Black Friday, using apps like RedLaser, ShopSavvy and BuyVia will help you find the best prices.
  7. Falling for “fear of missing out.” Oftentimes shoppers fall for the belief that sales are short-lived or that items are in limited supply. This is not necessarily true. Retailers have been preparing for this day weeks in advance and have ample supplies of what they expect to be top sellers. Keep in mind that many of the door-buster deals that are in limited supply are cheap quality, as well as cheaply priced.
  8. Forgetting about Cyber Monday. If you do not find what you need on Black Friday, don’t forget about the Cyber Monday deals. Shopping online makes it easier to compare prices and stock up your cart with items you might not have been able to find in stores.

6 FREE Shopping Apps to Help You Save Money

May 8, 2013 Posted by kingcade

Below are six FREE apps that will allow you to shop and save, while using your Smartphone:

1. RedLaser: This app is one of the best apps for comparing prices. It is available for Androids, iPhones and the Windows Phone 7. When you are in need of an appliance, pair of shoes or a cosmetics product, simply scan the product’s bar code with the RedLaser app and it will tell you the best available prices and the closest place near your location to find it! You can even choose the “BUY NOW” button and the app will take you directly to the website where you can purchase the item.

2. Slice: This app is great for tracking your online purchases. It is available for Androids and iPhones. The way this app works best is if you sync it with your Gmail or Yahoo account. The app will search through your inbox for online orders and track your purchases. The best feature on this app is that it will detect price drops and alert you on your recent purchases that have experienced a price drop. Some merchants will offer you adjustments, such as Kohl’s and Walmart.

3. AMEX Sync Your Card: This app is available for Androids and iPhones. It allows you to sync your card to your social media accounts where you can qualify for exclusive deals, credited to your statement. In most cases, you will need to post a tweet or check in on FourSquare to get these deals.

4. Decide.com: This is a great app to help you save when you are buying electronics. It is available for Androids, iPhones and iPads. This app will let you know whether you should buy now or wait for a price drop or model upgrade, based on historical data.

5. Coupon Sherpa: This is a coupon app for Androids or iPhones. This app allows you to choose from hundreds of coupons from major retailers and grocery stores from your phone. In most cases, you can show the coupon to your checkout person for the deal.

6. Key Ring: This app allows you to use your consumer loyalty to get deals. It is available for Androids, iPhones, iPads and Blackberrys. The Key Ring app allows you to flash your phone for your loyalty card, rather than carrying your plastic loyalty card on your keychain.

Best Shopping Deals in March

March 5, 2013 Posted by kingcade

March has always been a big shopping month, particularly for those looking for spring deals. Below is a list from Dealnews.com of the best products to buy this month.

PlayStation 3
Sony debuted the long-awaited PlayStation 4 in late February. In the past, prices on previous generation PlayStations have dropped between 60% and 64% just after the latest models were released. The prices of PlayStation 3 consoles are expected to do the same this month.

Chocolate
High-end chocolate shops, such as Godiva, are expected to have great deals on chocolates leftover from Valentine’s Day this month. Typically after a holiday, themed candy is discounted up to 50%.

Luggage
March is a great time of the year to buy travel gear. Last year, a number of stores had great luggage deals during March such as: Wal-Mart, eBags, Macy’s and Sears. These deals will likely last through spring.

Frozen Foods
March is National Frozen Foods Month. Although it was adopted as a marketing ploy, you will see special promotions from different food brands throughout the month on frozen foods.

Smartphones
In February, at Mobile World Congress, several phone manufacturers debuted new smartphones, turning 2012 models into previous-generation goods. This month will be a good time to buy last year’s smartphones at discounted prices.

Big-Screen TVs
TV deals were at all-time lows during February. These discounted prices are expected to continue into March.
